ASSAM RIFLES FOILS CROSS-BORDER SMUGGLING OPERATION IN TENGNOUPAL DISTRICT

On 25 October 2024, Assam Rifles intercepted a smuggling attempt near Petrol Pump, Moreh in Tengnoupal District.
During a routine mobile vehicle check, troops spotted two approaching vehicles from the Moreh side. Acting suspiciously, the drivers abandoned the vehicles and fled into the dense jungle as troops advanced.
Upon searching the vehicles, troops uncovered a hidden stash of 40 sacks of Burmese Areca nuts, valued at approximately ₹17.28 lakh in the international market, concealed beneath 34 bags of shoes and four bags of slippers.
The seized items and vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Customs Preventive Force in Moreh for further investigation.
