ASSAM RIFLES PAYS TRIBUTE TO FALLEN BRAVEHEARTS IN WREATH LAYING CEREMONY

In a solemn ceremony, Assam Rifles paid tribute to its fallen heroes who displayed unwavering courage and dedication in the line of duty. On October 31, the force commemorated two significant events in its history.

On October 31, 1966, a patrol team from Assam Rifles was ambushed by approximately 50 MNF insurgents in Khawbung, Mizoram. The team mounted a fierce counterattack, forcing the insurgents to retreat, but not before Riflemen Lushai Mohan Chakma, Bhim Bahadur Sunar, Dal Bahadur Thapa, Ashwini Sarkar, Om Prakash Lohar, and Hari Lal Giri made the ultimate sacrifice.

Similarly, on the same date in 2007, an Assam Rifles team led by Major Ravi Vaish was ambushed while patrolling in Ukhrul, Manipur. Despite their valiant efforts to hold off the insurgents, Major Vaish, Rifleman Gyaneshwar Singh, and Rifleman H Sahini lost their lives.

The ceremony included a wreath-laying led by the unit’s Commandant, who shared the heroic stories of these martyrs to instill pride among the ranks. A Guard of Honour was rendered by 150 Assam Rifles personnel, paying heartfelt tribute to these bravehearts whose courage continues to inspire the force.
