On November 3, 2024, Assam Rifles celebrated the traditional Ningol Chakouba festival with the Meitei community in Kwatha, Tengnoupal District. The event marked a vibrant celebration of this cherished festival, which honours the enduring bond between married daughters and their maternal homes.
During the festivities, Assam Rifles welcomed Meitei women adorned in their finest attire, who brought gifts symbolizing warmth and tradition. In return, they received tokens from the Assam Rifles, embodying the deep connection between the Force and the community. Officials from Assam Rifles extended heartfelt greetings to the Meitei community, emphasizing the significance of this festival.
The celebration at Kwatha drew participation from approximately 170 villagers, including 26 men, 118 women, and 26 children, fostering a spirit of kinship and joy among attendees.
Simultaneously, at the Serou Relief Camp in Kakching District, Assam Rifles distributed refreshments, essential items, and gifts sourced from IDP camps. Health and hygiene support was provided through a medical camp, fogging, and DDT spraying to ensure the well-being of camp residents.
At the Mission Blind School, Assam Rifles engaged with students, teachers, and staff to understand their needs and offer ongoing assistance. Refreshments were provided to students and nearby residents, further strengthening community bonds.
The event aimed to deepen the connection between Assam Rifles and the people of Kakching District. In collaboration with IDPs, medicines and rations were distributed to women and children at the relief camp. The celebration concluded with a communal feast alongside the Meira Paibis, where special gifts were presented to the Ningols. Approximately 350 people—70 men, 180 women, and 100 children—actively participated in this joyous occasion.
The local community warmly appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles to strengthen relationships with residents, enhancing trust and encouraging ongoing collaboration. This initiative reflects Assam Rifles’ commitment to fostering unity and support within local communities while celebrating cultural traditions.
