ASSAM RIFLES SEIZES SUBSTANTIAL QUANTITY OF ILLEGAL ARECA NUTS IN MULTIPLE OPERATIONS IN TENGNOUPAL DISTRICT

On 13 November 2024, Assam Rifles intercepted a total of 53 trucks transporting illegally sourced Areca nuts in four separate operations across Tengnoupal District.

Based on reliable intelligence, the first operation in Narum led to the seizure of 3,400 bags of Areca nuts, valued at Rs 23 crore. In Sita Village, 255 bags weighing approximately 20,400 kg and valued at Rs 1.76 crore were confiscated. Another operation in RRC Village recovered 400 bags, totaling 32,000 kg and worth Rs 2.76 crore. The largest haul was at Lamlong Khunou, where 6,800 bags weighing 544,000 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 47 crore, were seized.

All confiscated goods have been handed over to the Forest Department in Imphal for legal action.
