The Assam Rifles has successfully spearheaded two significant events aimed at promoting environmental conservation and combating drug abuse in the Kamjong and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur. These initiatives reflect the organization’s commitment to fostering a healthier and more responsible society.
In Kamjong District, a Tree Plantation Drive was held at Sorde Village, addressing critical environmental challenges such as deforestation and illegal timber trade. Despite the region’s rich natural resources, these activities have led to severe environmental degradation. The initiative aimed to educate the local community, particularly school students, on the importance of preserving nature.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from locals, village council representatives, and school children. Activities included a cleanliness drive around the village and the planting of 250 saplings along public spaces and the Shangshak-Kasong road. Local authorities and villagers expressed their gratitude for this initiative and pledged their support for ongoing conservation efforts.
Simultaneously, in Bongjang Village, Tengnoupal District, Assam Rifles conducted an essential awareness lecture on drug abuse and its harmful effects. This session attracted over 30 participants, including men, women, and children, highlighting the growing issue of substance abuse in the region. The interactive session addressed the social, psychological, and physical impacts of drug addiction while emphasizing prevention strategies and rehabilitation options.
These initiatives underscore Assam Rifles’ unwavering dedication to tackling pressing social and environmental issues in Manipur. By raising awareness and engaging communities in constructive actions, Assam Rifles continues to pave the way for a more responsible and sustainable future.
