WB Governor, Dr.C V Ananda Bose will attend the Oath taking ceremony at West Bengal Legislative Assembly tomorrow

West Bengal Governor Dr. C V Ananda Bose will attend the Oath taking ceremony of the newly elected MLAs at the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on 02 December, 2024.This is in response to the wishes of the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Speaker conveyed to the Governor , Dr. Bose.

In this connection the provision of Article 188 of the Constitution is given below:
188. Oath or affirmation by members.—Every member of the Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council of a State shall, before taking his seat, make and subscribe before the Governor, or some person appointed in that behalf by him, an oath or affirmation according to the form set out for the purpose in the Third Schedule.

It may be recalled that on 20 March, 2023 HG had authorised Speaker to conduct the Oath-taking ceremony to the then newly elected MLA Shri Bayron Biswas.

Oath taking of Shri Nirmal Chandra Roy, was held in Raj Bhavan on 30 September, 2023.

Governor’s intention in holding the oath-taking ceremony at Raj Bhavan was to symbolically and decisively honour the commitment given to the people of Bengal to transform Raj Bhavan into Jana Raj Bhavan. It may be recalled that Hon’ble President of India had handed over the symbolic key of Raj Bhavan to Chief Minister symbolizing this transformation.

Now as desired by the Chief Minister and Speaker, HG will be attending the Assembly for the oath taking ceremony on 2nd December 2024.

Raj Bhavan’s transformation into Jana Raj Bhavan has touched people. Since the launching of the Heritage Walk initiative by HG on April 15, 2023, on the occasion of Bengali Naboborsho – 1430, to date over seventy walks have been conducted under the aegis of the Indian Museum, with more than 2,800 participants joining in to visit and explore and identify themselves with Jana Raj Bhavan.

It may also be recalled that during 2023 under HG’s initiative a programme of SPEED (Simplified Procedure for Early and Effective Disposal) was introduced to streamline the approval process for state files, involving direct interaction with ministers and secretaries.

Programmes like the Aamne Samne, Duare Rajyapal, Jan Ki Baat, Governor in Campus, Citizen Connect and Jana Manch are meant to take RB closer to people.

Now that HG is entering the third year in office he would like to have ‘new heaven and earth’ in governmental relations.
