AIIMS Guwahati Organizes Health Camp in Kamrup with Drone-Based Healthcare Services

The AIIMS Guwahati organized a multispecialty health camp at Batahidia Char Primary Health Centre (PHC) in collaboration with the District Health Society, Kamrup. The camp, held on December 10, 2024, aimed to provide essential medical services to the local population residing on an island under the Chaygaon Block PHC in Kamrup District.

A team of specialists and healthcare professionals from various departments, including General Medicine, Gynaecology, Community and Family Medicine, Orthopaedics, Dentistry, Paediatrics, Dermatology, ENT, Pharmacology, Ophthalmology, as well as the Drone and Remote Medicine team, participated actively in the camp. Over 200 patients were attended to, presenting with a range of medical conditions.

In addition to on-site consultations, the health camp benefited from AIIMS Guwahati’s innovative drone-based healthcare services. Diagnostic samples collected from patients at Batahidia Char PHC were transported via drone to AIIMS Guwahati for further testing, ensuring timely diagnosis and follow-up care. This service, part of an ongoing collaboration between AIIMS Guwahati, National Health Mission (NHM) Assam, and the Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup, is aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the region’s riverine and hard-to-reach areas.

Dr. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director , AIIMS Guwahati expressed his commitment to enhancing healthcare access and stated, “AIIMS Guwahati is dedicated to reaching out to remote communities, leveraging technology and expert medical services to bridge the healthcare gap in these regions.”
