As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Assam Rifles conducted a Swachhata Pakhwada in Khengjoi Sub Division, Chandel on 12 Dec 24. The event aimed to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in nearby villages while raising awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
The campaign saw enthusiastic participation from 168 local villagers, Assam Rifles personnel, and students across the Area of Responsibility (AoR). The initiative included multiple small-scale events that engaged various audience categories over two weeks.
The day commenced with a Cleanliness Drive, Waste Segregation, Sanitization and Hygiene practices, and a Tree Plantation Drive. A cleanliness drive was organized involving community members, volunteers, and local village authorities. The community was educated on the importance of waste segregation and provided training on how to segregate waste. Additionally, sanitation and hygiene practices such as hand washing and proper toilet use were promoted. The tree plantation drive aimed to enhance greenery and beautify public spaces.
Assam Rifles’ efforts to promote cleanliness and hygiene have been well-received by the local community. This event reinforced the significance of collective efforts in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
*ASSAM RIFLES HONOURS BRAVEHEARTS*
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was organized by Assam Rifles at Joupi to pay tribute to the bravehearts who laid down their lives fighting against the Chinese in 1965 at Sikkim. This heartfelt event honoured the memory of seven courageous soldiers: Lieutenant M D Uniyal, Lance Naik Tika Ram, Rifleman Bhim Singh, Rifleman Dhan Singh, Rifleman Lachhan Singh, Rifleman Balbir Singh, and Rifleman Raghubir Singh Chhetri, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers, JCOs, and jawans, all of whom paid their respects to the fallen heroes. The wreath-laying ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers of Assam Rifles.
The Assam Rifles has a proud history of valour and sacrifice, and this ceremony was a tribute to the indomitable spirit of its bravehearts.
