ASSAM RIFLES DISMANTLES ILLEGAL POPPY PLANTATIONS IN UKHRUL DISTRICT

Assam Rifles, in close coordination with local police and forest officials, conducted a five-day operation from December 10 to 17, 2024, aimed at destroying illegal poppy plantations in the Sihai, Tora, Changtaand, and Champung areas of Ukhrul district. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to combating the illicit drug trade, preserving the environment, and addressing threats to national security.

During the operation, approximately 247 acres of illegal poppy cultivation were identified and destroyed across the challenging terrain. The mission was executed with precision through effective intelligence gathering, meticulous planning and seamless inter-agency collaboration, ensuring the safety of surrounding communities while preserving natural ecosystems.

This joint effort highlighted the collective resolve of security forces, police, forest officials, and local villagers to eradicate poppy cultivation. By fostering a spirit of cooperation, the operation not only dealt a significant blow to the drug menace but also reinforced the region’s pathway toward sustainable development and lasting peace.

Assam Rifles organised an event on the theme “A Day with Company Commander” for the students of Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School in Thoubal District, Manipur on 20 December 2024.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 90 students and 15 teachers, all engaged in a vibrant programme designed to foster teamwork and camaraderie. A series of engaging and fun filled games like musical chairs kept the students entertained while simultaneously promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition.

The Company Commander actively interacted with the students and inspired them. He emphasised the importance of hard work and dedication, particularly in preparation for their upcoming 12th board examinations and the opportunities that lie ahead. Prizes were also awarded prizes to the winners of each game, boosting their morale.

The event provided an opportunity for students and teachers to further strengthen the bonds with Assam Rifles.

ASSAM RIFLES AIDS ACCIDENT VICTIMS

At approximately 11:25 PM on 20 December 2024, a pickup van travelling from Imphal to Bungpun was involved in an accident near Water Point (New Road) between Makan and Wanglee Company Operating Base (COB) in Kamjong District Manipur. In response to the emergency, a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) from Assam Rifles, alongside medical staff, rushed to the scene to provide immediate assistance.

Among the passengers, an elderly woman, approximately 50 years old, suffered a serious head injury, while three others sustained minor injuries. First aid was promptly administered on-site, and the elderly woman was evacuated to Imphal in a civil vehicle for advanced medical care. Meanwhile, the remaining passengers were safely transported to Bungpun village by the Assam Rifles team.

The timely and compassionate response of Assam Rifles not only prevented further distress but also exemplified their commitment to public welfare.

Villagers of Bungpun expressed their deep appreciation for the swift action taken by the Assam Rifles, highlighting the force’s dedication to serving the people of Manipur. This act of kindness and professionalism reinforces the trust and respect the community holds for Assam Rifles.

ASSAM RIFLES AIDS IN DESTRUCTION OF FIVE ACRES OF ILLICIT POPPY CULTIVATION

In a resolute crackdown on illegal activities, Assam Rifles successfully aided in the destruction of five acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Churachandpur District. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Manipur Police and representatives from the Narcotics and Affairs of Borders (NAB), conducted the operation on 18 December 2024, targeting the illicit fields located in Old Phaisat village.

This decisive action demonstrates Assam Rifles’ unwavering commitment to curbing narcotics production and trafficking, thereby contributing to the creation of a healthier and more harmonious society.

The operation sends a strong message against unlawful activities, reinforcing peace and stability amidst ongoing tensions in Manipur.

The successful eradication of these poppy fields reflects Assam Rifles’ dedication to combating illegal activities and safeguarding the region’s future. By actively engaging with local communities and law enforcement agencies, Assam Rifles continues to promote societal resilience and ensure a safer environment for all residents.
