Renowned filmmaker Shyam Benegal passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the age of 90.
He died at approximately 6:30 pm at Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai after battling a prolonged kidney-related illness.
Benegal was a pioneer of parallel cinema in India, known for his realistic storytelling and social commentary.
He directed iconic films such as Ankur (1973), Nishant (1975), Manthan (1976), and Bhumika (1977).
