The President of the Kho Kho Federation of India, Sudhanshu Mittal, met the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis ji who extended his best wishes for the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup that will be taking place in New Delhi in January 2025.
Maharashtra has had a very rich history and sporting culture when it comes to Kho Kho. The present version originated with its formalised rules and regulations for Kho Kho were written by Pune’s Deccan Gymkhana that gave the sport a structured look. The first rule book of Kho Kho was written by Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
Maharashtra has produced some of the finest talents to have played for the country at the highest level and continues to do so. Each and every child, in the state plays the sport as part of its school curriculum . Moreover, the Kho Kho club culture in the state is a prominent thing and creates some good rivalry among the players .
The financial stability is another factor that adds up and helps unearth more talent from Maharashtra. The Shiv Chhatrapati Award is a prestigious annual sports award given by the Government of Maharashtra to recognize the achievements of athletes and sports contributors in the state. Also players part of the state team have been given state government jobs .
KKFI, under Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) is holding a training camp ahead of the global event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in capital city which is attended by 60 male and 60 female players. Out of these, more than 20 players are from Maharashtra.
India is gearing up for the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup and the final squad for the multi-nation tournament will be picked on the basis of players’ performance in the camp.
