Located within the Silchar Development Block, Neairgram Bagpur Gram Panchayat emerges as a thriving hub of agricultural excellence. With a significant portion of its population devoted to farming, the GP has once again reaffirmed its position as the agricultural backbone of the Barak Valley region.
This year, like many before, women Self-Help Group (SHG) members under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) have showcased their dedication and enterprise. Leveraging the financial support received through the ASRLM Bank Linkage Program, these rural women have transformed their aspirations into bountiful harvests.
The fertile fields of Neairgram Bagpur GP brim with vibrant crops, including cauliflower, capsicum, brinjal, broccoli, mustard, potato, chilli, radish, and much more. Their dedication and labor ensure a steady supply of fresh produce not only to the Barak Valley but also to other districts and states, earning the GP its well-deserved reputation as the “Food Basket” of the region.
SHG members have expressed immense gratitude for the government’s unwavering support and the transformative impact of initiatives like the Lakhpati Didi scheme. This visionary program has significantly uplifted rural women’s incomes, enabling them to reinvest in their fields, diversify their produce, and secure better futures for their families.
“The government’s efforts have truly empowered us. Through the SHG initiatives, we have not only enhanced our agricultural yields but also strengthened our financial independence,” shared an elated member of the local SHG.
The success story of Neairgram Bagpur GP is a testament to the power of collective effort, robust government schemes, and the indomitable spirit of rural women. As they continue to feed the Barak Valley and beyond, these women farmers embody the essence of resilience and hope, setting a benchmark for sustainable rural development.
