The Indian Institute of Management Shillong (IIM Shillong) witnessed a momentous occasion today as the convocation ceremony for the _first of its kind_ Management Essentials 2024 course offered by MILVEST was held, marking the successful culmination of a transformative journey for its participants. Representing the Indian Armed Forces community, the participants included serving and retired personnel, their spouses, and grown-up children. The event was graced by Air Marshal Surat Singh, AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command, who felicitated the graduates with certificates of accomplishment.
The Management Essentials 2024 course is a pioneering initiative under MILVEST (Military Veterans Skilling and Transformation), addressing the critical need for reskilling within the armed forces community. It empowers participants to transition seamlessly from a combat environment to corporate or civil society roles, ensuring smooth career development and resettlement.
MILVEST, an initiative under the Sambhav Kadam Foundation, redefines how veterans and their families prepare for their second careers. The Management Essentials program, launched in collaboration with IIM Shillong, combines elite education with unmatched flexibility, delivered through online webinars and seminars tailored for serving and retired soldiers.
While on the ceremony, the participants appreciated the course’s systematic approach, which featured recorded sessions, pre-reads, quizzes, and assignments. The affordable fee structure ensured inclusivity for the military community. Beyond academics, participants engaged in professional activities, such as visits to Industries like LinkedIn’s platforms and an HR seminar with industry leaders, further enriching their learning journey.
During the ceremony, Air Marshal Surat Singh highlighted, “The Management Essentials program by MILVEST not only equips our soldiers and their families with relevant skills but also underscores our collective responsibility to support their transition with dignity and purpose.”
The convocation also marked the announcement of MILVEST 2025, an expanded program that builds on the success of its predecessor. It introduces new initiatives such as Corporate and Industry Orientation (CIO) and add-on flavours like Short-duration programs in areas of strategic HR, marketing, supply chain with analytics, and entrepreneurship.
With 60,000 personnel retiring annually, the founder Captain (IN) Vinay Singh has reassured that MILVEST continues to uphold its mission of providing veterans with the skills and tools needed to thrive as leaders and innovators in their civilian careers and expressed gratitude for all supports extended by the Eastern Air Command AC and IIM Shillong for making the convocation day.
