The Highlanders face FC Goa in a crunch Indian Super League tie

NorthEast United FC will look to extend their unbeaten run to five games when they face FC Goa in the Indian Super League (ISL 2024-25) match at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati here Tuesday.

The Highlanders are unbeaten in their last four matches and come into the game as the league’s highest-scoring side with 30 goals from 15 games. Moroccan forward Alaaeddine Ajaraie is the leading goal contributor in the league (15 goals and 4 assists) and is in sensational form. He is well-supported by the Spaniard Guillermo Fernandez (4 goals), Parthib Gogoi (2 goals, 3 assists), and Jithin MS (5 assists).

In the pre-match press conference, NorthEast United FC’s assistant coach Naushad Moosa expressed that the team will stick to their plans and will aim to gain the maximum points.

“When you put yourself under (unnecessary) pressure, you don’t perform. We must continue to play our game and stick to our plans. Of course, we need points because the teams are closely stacked together. Victory is very important and that’s the mentality we take into this game,” Moosa said.

In the midfield, the trio of Mayakannan, Mohammed Ali Bemammer, and Macarton have consistently dominated possession. Nestor Albiach, operating in the attacking midfield role, has been a key contributor with four goals.

At the back, Gurmeet has been one of the outstanding keepers in the league with 45 saves and four clean sheets. He has been well-guarded by the backline of Redeem Tlang, Asheer Akhtar, captain Michel Zabaco and Buanthanglun Samte.

“We have players who can play in multiple positions and we always support each other. We don’t hold anything against each other and always help each other. We push each other to be better every day,” Dinesh Singh, one of the defenders in the team, said about the healthy team environment.

Come Tuesday, NorthEast United FC will look to extend their unbeaten run to five matches and gift their fans full three points on the occasion of Bihu, a prominent festival in Assam.
