To mark National Girl Child Day, Cairn Oil & Gas, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare (DSW) department of Golaghat, organized an awareness session at Borpathar Higher Secondary School. Around 500 students and 18 school staff participated in the event that focused on empowering young girls and advocating for their education and well-being.

Celebrated annually on January 24, National Girl Child Day was introduced in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to promote gender equality and address the challenges faced by girls in India.

In line with this year’s theme, “Empowering Girls for a Bright Future,” Monjolika Gogoi, a representative from the DSW department, highlighted the essential role of girls’ education and empowerment in shaping a progressive society. Motivational speeches by schools’ representatives inspired the students to strive for excellence and break barriers. One of the key highlights of the session was the introduction of the Government of Assam’s Child Marriage Prohibition Drive, with a call to action for students and the broader community to contribute to creating a safer, more inclusive environment and an equitable future for girls.

National Girl Child Day serves as an important reminder of the need to support and empower girls. Investing in their education and empowerment is an investment in a brighter, shared future. Through initiatives that focus on early childhood education, healthcare, and skill-building, Cairn aims to foster a more inclusive society. In line with this commitment, Cairn Oil & Gas has also conducted awareness sessions on the POCSO Act and the Child Marriage Act, as well as workshops to educate specially abled children about available government schemes.

Cairn Oil & Gas continues to invest in programs that support the education, health, and overall development of children, particularly girls, in Assam and across India by addressing critical areas like nutrition, education, and empowerment.
