Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal displayed a brilliant all-round performance as Bengal outclassed Punjab by an innings and 13 runs in their final group-stage match at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Suraj smashed a superb 111 while also bagging 4 for 68 in the first innings followed by 4 for 69 in the second to hand Bengal a stunning victory at home.
Besides Suraj, Sumanta Gupta (55), Abishek Porel (52), Sumit Mohanta (4-58, 3-29) and Md Kaif (2-41, 2-41) were the star performers for Bengal.
“All the players stepped up and performed. Suraj was brilliant both with bat and ball. Overall, we had a very good season. We also gave opportunities to youngsters and they took up the challenge well,” Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said.
Earlier, after bowling out Punjab for 191, Bengal posted 343 in their first innings to bag a vital lead. Punjab, in their second innings, were bundled out for 139 to hand a big victory to the home side.
