SEALDAH STATION OBSERVES HISTORIC KOLKATA PRATYABARTAN DIVAS OF SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

“Kolkata Pratyavartan Divas” commemorates the historic return of Swami Vivekananda on 19th February, 1897, after his triumphant tour of the United States of America and West.

Swami Vivekananda’s unforgettable journey began when he left Kolkata in 1893 to attend the 1st Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, where he delivered an epoch-making speech introducing Hinduism to the Western world. His message of tolerance, universal acceptance and the importance of spiritual growth resonated deeply with the western audience, immersed in material epicureanism.

Today, Eastern Railway/Sealdah Division commemorates the 129th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s return to Kolkata with a special train journey from Budge Budge to Sealdah. This event, known as the “Kolkata Pratyavartan Divas,” celebrates the unforgettable moment when Swamiji arrived at Budge Budge Station on February 19 after conquering the West. To commemorate this significant occasion, a special train, adorned with flowers and quotes of Swami Vivekananda, was flagged off from Budge Budge station. The train reached Sealdah, retracing the footsteps of the greatest philosopher and spiritual leader of modern India.

The event was graced  Milind K. Deuskar, GM/ER and Shri Deepak Nigam, DRM Sealdah. Seema Deouskar, President ERWWO, delivered a small yet composed speech highlighting Swami Vivekananda’s contribution in Social reforms and Cultural revival. In his speech, Deuskar paid his humble tribute to Swami Vivekananda welcoming the noble initiative and highlighted the importance of remembering Swamiji, the Soul of Indian Renaissance. Shri Deepak Nigam states that, Swamiji spearheaded the cultural, intellectual and philosophical movement of Modern India to revitalize Indian culture, Sonatan Hindutwa, promote rationalism and humanism. Shri Satyaki Nath, CAO/System/ER, in his speech has emphasized upon the impact of Swamiji’s spiritual movement which played a crucial role in promoting nationalism and self discovery, ultimately contributing to India’s struggle for independence.

The special train journey served as a tribute to Swami Vivekananda’s profound impact on Indian culture and spirituality.

His teachings and ideals continue to inspire millions around the world. The event aimed to rekindle the spirit of his message and promote his vision of a united and progressive India.

Kolkata Pratyavartan Divas is celebrated every year by Eastern Railway/Sealdah Division with great enthusiasm to honor Swami Vivekananda’s legacy and his contributions to India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
