OPHTHALMOLOGISTS PLAY A KEY ROLE IN MEDICAL CAMP CONDUCTED BY ASSAM RIFLES

To provide essential eye care services to the local community, Assam Rifles organized a medical camp at Tengnoupal on 19 February 2025. Eye examinations, screenings for common eye conditions and expert referrals for further treatment were carried out at the camp. A total of 151 men, 101 women and 98 children benefited from this initiative. A dedicated team of healthcare professionals from Assam Rifles and Civil Authorities worked together to ensure villagers received quality and accessible eye care. By addressing vision-related issues and spreading awareness, this initiative aims to improve the quality of life for the local population and strengthen the bond between security forces and the community.

ASSAM RIFLES AVERTS MAJOR FOREST FIRE IN CHANDEL DISTRICT

The Assam Rifles averted a major forest fire near Thangbung Minou village, Chandel District on 18 February 2025, preventing potential loss of life and property.

The fire, which began when villagers attempted to clear a forested slope through controlled burning, quickly spread due to strong winds and dry vegetation. The fire had spread dangerously close to a commercial communication tower and nearby houses. Troops of Assam Rifles on duty at Chandel noticed thick smoke and immediately mobilized a firefighting team. Joining hands with the local Police and civilians together they contained the blaze. Assam Rifles due to its swift response and speedy action saved precious lives.

ASSAM RIFLES HONOURS BRAVEHEARTS

On 19 February 2025, Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony at Litan in Ukhrul District of Manipur to honour the BRAVEHEARTS of 21 Sikh who had laid down their lives in service of the Nation on 19 February 1982.

In February 1982, 21 Sikh Battalion was deployed in counter insurgency role in Manipur.

On 19 February 1982, Major Ranvir Singh Shekhawat led a convoy of three vehicles transporting personnel and supplies from Imphal to Ukhrul. At approximately 1000h, while navigating a bend near Namthilok, about 34 kilometers from Imphal, the convoy was ambushed by heavily armed insurgents. The attack resulted in fatality of 19 valiant soldiers. Demonstrating exceptional bravery, Major Shekhawat engaged the insurgents until he sustained fatal gunshot wound. In recognition of the valour and supreme sacrifice, Major Ranvir Singh Shekhawat was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.

On this solemn day Assam Rifles paid homage to the valiant actions of the soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation, upholding highest traditions of Indian Army.
