COMPREHENSIVE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AGAINST TRESPASSING AND ENCROACHMENTS NEAR RAILWAY TRACK

Sealdah Division, undoubtedly it’s the lifeline of the City of Joy, caters to 15-18 lakh commuters a day and connects various districts and suburbs with Kolkata. However, excessive trespassing and encroachment are posing serious threat before Railway operations in Sealdah Division and at the same time endangering lives of commuters as well as trespassers.

In a bid to combat the menace, Sealdah Division has initiated a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate the public about the severe dangers and legal consequences associated with unauthorized track crossings. The campaign features a multi-pronged approach to maximize public outreach. Continuous announcements are being made at all stations within the Division, emphasizing upon the life threatening risks of trespassing and its status as a punishable offense. Informative pamphlets detailing the dangers of trespassing and relevant legal provisions are being distributed to the passengers. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are strategically & actively deployed across the Division along tracks, conducting vigilant patrols and deterring potential trespassers. Their presence serves as a strong deterrent and ensures immediate intervention.

To enhance public awareness, Sealdah division is organizing street plays at various stations with the help of Scouts & Guides, St. John Ambulance & Civil Defence. These engaging performances effectively communicate the risks & consequences associated with trespassing and promote responsible behaviour.

Deepak Nigam, DRM Sealdah, has stated that trespassing on Railway Track is extremely dangerous and illegal act that can lead to fatal accidents. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of our passengers and prevent any untoward incidents. We urge everyone to use designated foot over bridges or subways for crossing the railway lines.
Under the Indian Railways Act, trespassing is a punishable offense and violators are liable to be imprisoned or fined.

Sealdah division appeals to the public for their cooperation in adhering to safety guidelines and respecting Railway property. Sealdah Division also solicits co-operation of public representatives, local police, passenger association and daily commuters in combating the social evil called trespassing in order to ensure seamless and safe Railway operations.
