Assam Rifles marked the vibrant festival of Yaoshang with a series of sporting and cultural events across Manipur, strengthening its bond with local communities through friendly matches, traditional competitions, and youth engagement.
At Chandrakhong village, Thoubal Dist, the final day of Yaoshang was marked by a football match between Assam Rifles troops and local youths. The match was played in great spirit, with players showcasing their skills and teamwork as the crowd cheered them on.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a tug-of-war competition was held, with local women known for their resilience and unity. Their enthusiastic participation was met with loud applause, making it one of the most engaging moments of the day.
The celebrations also included traditional Meitei dance performances such as Thabal Chongba, along with fun games for children, including relay and sack races. As the festivities came to a close, gifts were handed out to participants, making it a joyful occasion for all.
Meanwhile, at Serou village in Kakching district, friendly matches between Assam Rifles personnel and local teams were held, drawing enthusiastic crowds and reinforcing goodwill. The finale on 18 March featured a thrilling volleyball final, followed by spirited traditional games and a prize distribution ceremony. MLA K. Ranjit Singh, who attended the closing event, commended Assam Rifles for its role in encouraging youth participation and strengthening community ties.
In Irangband village, Kakching District Assam Rifles organised a volleyball match with local youth, concluding with the distribution of sports kits to the village club. The energetic participation from both sides made the event a memorable part of the festival celebrations.
The Assam Rifles’ participation in Yaoshang 2025 not only added to the celebrations but also strengthened its connection with the people of Manipur, ensuring that the festival was marked with enthusiasm, togetherness, and spirited competition.
