Assam Rifles organised the 3rd edition of the “Assam Rifles Sentinels Cup”. This tournament has seen enthusiastic participation from ten teams representing Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura and Assam in addition to teams from the Assam Rifles, 164 TA (Naga), and 165 TA (Assam).
The first phase of the tournament was conducted in Dimapur, Nagaland. After an exciting competition with several nail-biting finishes, four teams namely 165 TA, 164 TA, Manipur and team from Assam came into semi finals. The final match was played between the teams from 165 TA (Assam) and 164 TA (Naga) on 28 March 2025, set against the beautiful backdrop of the East Khasi Hills at the Laitkor Garrison of the Assam Rifles in Shillong.
The 3rd edition of Sentinels Cup commenced on 16 March 2025 in Dimapur, with a grand opening ceremony. Every match of the tournament was keenly contested with a competitive spirit, featuring ups and downs in team positions and some fiercely close games. The best two teams competed for the coveted trophy and cash prize of Rs 3,50,000/- for winner.
In the finals. The team from 164 TA (Naga) emerged as winners after a keenly contested and close match which went into extra time. The event was graced by Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, Director General Assam Rifles. Spectators were entertained with quality football displayed by highly skilled, motivated, and competitive players from both teams.
Assam Rifles proud to be known as ‘Friends of the North East,’ is promoting sports as a means to motivate the youth to stay away from insurgency and drugs and to identify the abundant talent in the North East for future growth. Assam Rifles also has an MoU with the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Academy through its residential Assam Rifles Public School (Sports), aiming to harness the football talent of the North East and support the Government of India’s initiatives of Khelo India Abhiyan and Fit India Movement.
