Sealdah station is undoubtedly the most important transportation hub of the City of Joy connecting Kolkata with the suburban of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad and parts of Howrah & Hooghly. Apart from hosting scores of Mail and Express trains, Sealdah Division ply a whooping 950 EMU and MEMU services.

So many infrastructure development works are being executed in record speed under the aegis of “Amrit Bharat Station Project”. Newly renovated Sealdah Station complex boasts state of the art modern infrastructure including multiple platforms all capable of holding 12 coach EMU rakes, waiting rooms and amenities like food courts, shops and Executive Restrooms. In recent past, a new entry/exit gate has been opened in Sealdah South station and also a subway has been opened for facilitating pedestrians to reach Metro station in a hassle free manner.

The Head Quarter of Sealdah Division is DRM building, located besides Platform no. 1 of Sealdah station. The beautiful Sealdah DRM building was constructed in 1869 and till then it’s the administration centre of the 715 km long Sealdah Division, which is 100% electrified. On the eve of Bengali New Year festival, Sealdah DRM Building is permanently illuminated with spectacular lighting.
