Assam Rifles marked World Earth Day 2025 with multiple environment-focused events across various districts of Manipur on 22 April 2025. These initiatives, conducted in collaboration with local communities, aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation, climate change, and sustainable living.
At Wanglee Village, Kamjong District, a Plantation Drive was conducted where 25 locals and Assam Rifles personnel together planted 400 saplings in public spaces and along the Wanglee-Kasong road. Participants were educated on the harmful effects of deforestation and encouraged to take ownership of the planted trees, promoting long-term sustainability.
Simultaneously, at Dr Colvin Academy, Moreh, Tengnoupal District, a Poster Making and Essay Writing Competition was organized for students of Classes VIII to X from JJ School. Approximately 100 students showcased their creativity and environmental awareness through vibrant artworks and thoughtful essays. The event served to nurture young minds and underscore the importance of educational outreach.
In T M Zoumunnoum village, also in Tengnoupal District, Assam Rifles conducted another Tree Plantation Drive with the participation of 28 enthusiastic villagers. The event concluded with an oath-taking ceremony where all attendees pledged to safeguard Mother Earth and continue efforts towards environmental protection.
At Singjemai, Imphal East District, Assam Rifles hosted a combined Tree Plantation and Cleanliness Drive. About 70 individuals, including 40 locals and 30 personnel from Assam Rifles, participated in planting saplings and cleaning public spaces. The initiative underscored the importance of collective responsibility in preserving the planet and reflected Assam Rifles’ commitment to community development and environmental stewardship.
These events collectively reaffirm Assam Rifles’ dedication to environmental conservation, youth engagement and its enduring motto of being “Friends of the North East People”.
