Assam emerged victorious in the final of the 1st North East Little Masters Trophy (Under-14), defeating Tripura by 47 runs at the ACA Cricket Academy Ground, Fulung, on Wednesday. The tournament was organised by the Assam Cricket Association in their bid to develop the grassroots of the entire Northeast region.
Assam, opting to bat first after winning the toss, posted 186 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs. Priyam Kundu anchored the innings with an unbeaten 37, supported by Tanveer Islam’s 35 and Anurag Bastia’s 18. For Tripura, Subhajit Kuri (2/29) and Bihan Das (2/33) returned with notable figures.
In response, Tripura was dismissed for 139 in 36.5 overs. Abhoy Deb top-scored with 39, while Rihan Aktar made 25 and Sriman Debnath added 20. Assam’s bowling unit maintained pressure throughout, with Manash Pratim Barman taking 3 for 14, Ayush Pandey 3 for 37, and Mazidul Islam 2 for 17.
Ayush Pandey was named Player of the Match for his effective bowling performance.
The closing ceremony was graced by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, BCCI Apex Council Member Mamon Majumdar, Assam Cricket Association Secretary Tridib Konwar, Tournament Director Romen Dutta, ACA Treasurer Chiranjit Langthasa, ACA Vice President Rajdeep Oja and the representatives of the cricket associations of Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram, among others dignitaries.
Mr.Devajit Saikia praised the Assam Cricket Association’s initiative in organising the tournament and expressed optimism that such competitions would encourage young talents from the Northeast to aim for higher levels in the sport.
Assam Cricket Association Secretary Tridib Konwar thanked the participating states, their teams, and stakeholders for their cooperation in making the tournament a grand success. “This is a new beginning. These youngsters will be tomorrow’s stars. Our efforts will continue to promote and develop cricket at the grassroots level in the region,” said Konwar.
