Sikkim’s Statehood Story Goes Digital with QR Cards at Mumbai Summit

On the second day of the prestigious World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 being held at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai, the Sikkim delegation distributed specially designed interactive digital info cards—compact PVC-based promotional tokens embedded with QR codes as a key element of its outreach strategy.

These smart cards link to a digital repository of initiatives and events curated by the Government of Sikkim to mark 50 years of Statehood on May 16, 2025.

Led by Secretary Information and Public Relations Department Government of Sikkim, Ms Annapurna Alley, the delegation included Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr Bikash Basnet, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr Yougan Tamang, Secretary IT Department Mr Tenzing T Kaleon, Director IT Mr Tsering Samdup, and other IPR officials.

It is worth mentioning here that the idea for the digital info cards was conceived, designed, and executed within a single day, an impressive feat that reflects the team’s quick thinking, collaborative spirit, and dedication to showcasing Sikkim’s identity on a national platform.

The swift execution ensured that the state’s message reached the right audience in a timely and impactful manner.

The vibrant cards featuring state symbols and dynamic design elements attracted widespread appreciation from delegates, including content creators, media professionals, and industry leaders.

The initiative served as a strong branding tool and created valuable networking opportunities to mark Sikkim’s place in India’s evolving creative and digital landscape, while aligning with the larger vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.

Throughout the day’s event, the delegation actively engaged with creative and corporate stakeholders, spotlighting the state’s creative ecosystem and inviting national and international collaboration in the run-up to its 50th year of Statehood.

In addition, the delegation also shared the IPR Department’s annual calendar and curated coffee table book on Sikkim’s diverse shooting destinations, aiming to generate interest among filmmakers, production houses, and digital content creators seeking scenic yet logistically viable locations.

The Sikkim delegation also took part in a series of insightful sessions and panel discussions that explored emerging dynamics in the global entertainment and media ecosystem.

These included thematic conversations on “Studios of the Future: Putting India on the World Studio Map” featuring Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, and “The Unifying Power of Media Content” by Alexander Zharov, CEO of Gazprom Media.

The team further engaged in panels such as “Opportunities Brought by AI in Media and Entertainment” led by Richard G Kerris, VP at NVIDIA, and “Trends and Virality: How Gen-Z Consumes Content” with Instagram Head Adam Mosseri and actress Shraddha Kapoor.

A special session, “Google Labs & YouTube Present: A Creative Session” with music maestro Shankar Mahadevan, also stood out among many other compelling workshops and discussions.
