Operation GHOST SIM: Army Busts Massive Fake SIM Racket with Links to Pakistan

An actionable Information was received from Gajraj Military Intelligencers about a racket involving fake SIM cards being used from bases in Assam, Rajasthan, and Telangana for Cyber crimes and other anti National activities including sensitive information gathering by agents sitting in Pakistan.This information was further developed by the Special Branch and Special Task Force of Assam Police.

Therefore, after strategic deliberation with the Gajraj intelligence unit, a joint operation was planned to be carried out simultaneously in two districts of Assam, one district in Telangana, and two districts in Rajasthan. The operation has been named Operation GHOST SIM.

On May 14, 2025, a case was registered at STF, Assam, vide STF PS Case No. 02/2025 under Sections 61(2)/147/148/62 of BNS, read with Section 18 of the UA(P) Act and Section 66 of the IT Act, and an investigation was launched.

Accordingly, a team was dispatched to each of the states-Rajasthan and Telangana-while dedicated action teams were formed for the districts of Dhubri and Morigaon in Assam.

A joint operation was launched from the afternoon on May 16, 2025 and the below mentioned persons were picked up from various locations and arrested in connection with the above mentioned case:

Saddik, Age 47 yers of Bela, PS Sikri, Dist Bharatpur, Rajasthan.

Arif Khan, Age 20 Years, S/o Azhar Khan of Sahodi Ka Bar, Sahori Alwar, Rajasthan.

Sajid, Age 21 Years, S/o Banne Khan of Sahodi Ka Bar, Sahori, PS: Akbarpur, Alwar, Rajasthan,

Akeek Age 25 years from Rojki, Dist Bharatpur, Rajasthan was arrested at Guwahati airport

Arsad Khan Age 34 years of Pendka, PS Nagar, District- Bharatpur. Rajasthan was arrested at New Delhi airport.

Mofijul Islam Age 19 years S/O– Sabir Ali, R/O Kathaldi Pt-II, PS-Bilasipara, District – Dhubri, Assam, Place of arrest Gollapally, PS Kondapur Dist- Sangareddy, Telengana.

Jakariya Ahmad Age 24 years, S/O-Mojibor Rahman, Vill Sagunmari pt-iv, PS-Bilasipara.

Besides the above persons 14 more persons have been picked up from different places of Dhubri and necessary lawful action will be taken after proper interrogation.

948 SIM cards and other technical devices have been recovered.
