In yet another milestone for Sikkim’s agricultural exports, a 300 kg consignment of dehydrated Dalle Chillies was dispatched to Solomon Islands on Thursday. This marks the second international shipment, following the first consignment sent on 24th March 2024.
The consignment was flagged off from Melli, South Sikkim, by Mevedir in the presence of senior government officials including Secretary of Horticulture Department Tilak Gazmer, Principal Director B.L. Dahal, Manager of Mevedir Sailesh Sherpa, COO Renzino Lepcha, and HoD Sanjay Gupta. Officials from the Spices Board and local representatives were also present.
Dalle Chilli, a GI tagged product of Sikkim, is gaining growing demand in global markets. Recognizing its export potential, the Government of Sikkim, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Puran Gurung, has been actively promoting the chilli through policy interventions and market strategies.
Principal Director B.L. Dahal said the export of Dalle Chilli is a matter of pride and encouragement for the local farmers engaged in its cultivation. He highlighted that 5 kg of fresh Dalle Chilli reduces to 1 kg after dehydration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also acknowledged the significance of Sikkim’s Dalle Chilli during his address from Bagdogra, further underlining its growing national and international recognition.
