Lunglei Town Receives Swachh Survekshan State Award for Cleanliness 2024-2025

Lunglei town of Mizoram has been honoured with the ‘Promising Swachh Shehar of Mizoram Award’ under the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024–2025, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The awards ceremony was held  at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on July 17, 2025.

The award was received by Mizoram UD&PA Minister Pu K. Sapdanga, Lunglei Municipal Council Vice Chairman Pu K. Lalrinawma, Executive Councillor Pi Lalhruaitluangi Sailo, UD&PA Secretary  Lalmalsawma Pachuau and Director Pu Jacob Lalawmpuia from Union Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Pu Manohar Lal.

The Swachh Survekshan Awards are part of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) initiative and evaluate towns and cities across India based on various cleanliness indicators. This year’s awards mark the 9th edition, with a total of 78 awards conferred.

Since its debut in 2016, Lunglei has won six Swachh Survekshan awards, including:

2019: Best City in Innovation and Best Practices (NE Zone)

2021: Best City in Citizen Feedback (NE Zone, Pop. 50k–1L)

2022 & 2023: Clean City in NE Zone (Pop. 50k–1L)

2023: Clean City within Mizoram (Pop. below 1L)
