It began not with a grand announcement, but with a simple question.

During a routine school visit, Shri Chandrashekhar Azad, Deputy Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) RO Guwahati and other teachers of KVS gathered a group of students and gently asked them to write down, anonymously, what worried them the most as exams approached. They expected concerns about syllabus, time management, or perhaps performance pressure. But what they saw when they read those small slips of paper stunned them.

They spoke of fear. Of failure. Of sleepless nights and silent anxiety. Some mentioned depression. Others expressed a deep fear of disappointing their parents. It wasn’t just about marks — it was about being overwhelmed, unheard, and emotionally exhausted. That moment planted the seed of an idea that would soon blossom into a life-changing initiative — “Each One Reach One.”

Moved by what they had witnessed, KVS RO Guwahati returned with a quiet resolve. Education could no longer just be about textbooks and tests — it had to reach the heart of the child. And so, the region’s greatest strength: its teachers were called on. The idea was simple yet profound — each teacher would mentor one student in need. Not just academically, but as a friend, a guide, and a support system. They would step beyond the classroom to understand each child’s world — their fears, their challenges, their hopes. Thus began Each One Reach One — not just a campaign, but a compassionate revolution.

The initiative, inspired by the National Education Policy 2020, was rolled out with a structured framework across the 42 schools of KVS RO Guwahati. Teachers were encouraged to voluntarily identify and adopt students who needed support — academically, emotionally, or both.

The process was personal. Mentors spent time understanding the child’s background, often visiting their homes, interacting with families, and creating customized plans. These plans included everything from academic roadmaps to mindfulness practices, nutritional suggestions, sleep schedules, and creative engagement. Mentorship extended beyond school hours — with after-school sessions, parental counselling, and regular feedback loops involving subject teachers and the students themselves. It was a full-circle effort.

In its first year alone — the academic session of 2024–2025 — the initiative saw 1,450 teachers mentoring 2,026 students across the region. Out of these 183 Class 10 students were mentored, achieving a 99.5% pass rate and 285 Class 12 students were supported, recording a 98.6% success rate.

These figures stand as testament to the power of connection. Students who were previously struggling began to find their footing. They weren’t just studying better — they were feeling better.

Mentors also identified key learning and developmental gaps. 29.4% struggled with literacy skills, 21.7% had issues in STEM subjects, 12.6% faced attention and focus difficulties while 9.1% showed emotional and behavioural concerns.

Schools under the initiative began introducing daily practices that focused on emotional well-being. Morning affirmations to build self-belief, mindfulness exercises to improve focus, tracking food, water, and sleep habits to promote wellness, creative tasks and worksheets to encourage conceptual clarity and imagination.

Reflecting on the initiative’s impact, Shri Chandrashekhar Azad shared: “‘Each One Reach One’ is more than just a campaign. It is a heartfelt commitment to inclusivity, compassion, and community building. Through this initiative, we are not only empowering our students and staff to support one another but also reinforcing the core values of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. I am proud of the way our Region has embraced this mission — creating a culture of care, connection and transformation.”

The success of Each One Reach One in its very first year proves one thing clearly: when students are seen, heard, and supported, they thrive. The initiative has not only addressed academic lag but also brought into light the often unspoken emotional struggles children face — fear of the future, anxiety around exams, pressure to perform, and parental expectations. The initiative will now be carried forward to the next year and the years after that not only in KVS Guwahati but across the country. As it grows, Each One Reach One has the potential to redefine schooling in the county — from mere instruction to true transformation.
