Border Security Force (BSF) organised a special investiture ceremony at Kolkata, to honour distinguished service and professional excellence to its personnel Force. On the occasion, 21 BSF personnel were conferred with the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service in recognition of their outstanding dedication and exemplary service.
The prestigious ceremony was graced by the Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, as the Chief Guest, adding exceptional dignity and significance to the occasion. In the august presence of Shri Rakesh Ranjan Lal, Inspector General (HR), Eastern Command and Shri Bhupender Singh, Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier, a total of 10 serving and 11 retired BSF personnel were conferred with this distinguished honour in recognition of their exemplary and meritorious service.The ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officers, jawans, retired personnel and their family members in large numbers, reflecting the collective pride, respect and high esteem accorded to the awardees and underscoring the Border Security Force’s strong tradition of honouring service, sacrifice and excellence.
The President’s Medal for Meritorious Service is conferred upon members of the Central Armed Police Forces in recognition of their exceptional devotion to duty, courage and sustained excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities. Regarded as one of the most prestigious honours within the forces, the medal is awarded only after a rigorous and transparent selection process, involving detailed scrutiny and evaluation by a high-level committee, thereby underscoring the exemplary standards of professionalism, integrity and service it represents.
In his address, Governor Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose lauded the Border Security Force for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders. He appreciated the continuous efforts made towards the enhancement of strategic capabilities, modern infrastructure, advanced weapon systems and professional training. The Governor particularly commended the exemplary performance of BSF personnel in effectively thwarting the nefarious designs of anti-national elements, underscoring their vital role in ensuring national security.
During the ceremony, medal recipients and their family members, alongside serving and retired BSF officers, subordinate officers and jawans, participated with solemn pride and enthusiasm. The occasion stood as a dignified tribute to outstanding and meritorious service, while also reinforcing the Border Security Force’s proud legacy, time-honoured traditions and core values. The event reaffirmed the Force’s enduring ethos of duty, discipline and sacrifice, and highlighted its unwavering resolve and collective commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and security of the nation.
