Journalist Rupam Baruah received the Devarshi Narad Award today at a solemn function held at Sudarshanalaya, Barbari, Guwahati on Saturday.

The event was attended by Narendra Kumar, associated publicity head of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the chief speaker. Narendra Kumar said Jugal Kishore Sharma started his newspaper on the Narad Jayanti as he was a stern believer of India’s believe and heritage.

He also added that Dadasaheb Phalke made a film of King Harichandra which reflects his love and respect for the country’s heritahe and tradition. Narendra Kumar said that Indian journalism was a symbol of courage during the pandemic.

The Narad Jayanti award includes Rs 50,000, a citation, a trophy, a package of books and a portrait of Mother India. Jitendra Kumar Chowdhury from Dainik Assam, Samya Bhardwaj from Amar Asom and Shewali Kalita for DDK also were faliciated in the same function. In the Narad Jayanit Award acceptance speech, Rupam Baruah said that The Saraswati Award, the Arjuna Award or the Hercules Award in Europe carry a symbol of the country’s cultural heritage and Narad Award is following the same legacy.

The event was attended by a huge group of citizen of the city including Guruprasad Medhi, Kishore Shivam, Nava Thakuria, Jagadindra Roychaudhury, Urbhashi Mahanta, Namrata Datta and a few officials of Biswa Sangbad Kendra (Assam).

The meeting started with a lantern lighting ceremony in front of the statue of the motherland and the Sant Narada, the first journalist of the world and Biswa Sangbad Kendra celebrates this birthday along with the journalists who works for this country.
