4G BTS Site of RJio Inaugurated at Jair Village in Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya

Department of Telecommunications (DoT), North East Licence Service Area (LSA), Shillong today inaugurated a 4G BTS site of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) having 40 meter Ground Based Tower (GBT) at Jair Village (Census Code 277803) of Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya as a part of celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Jair Village is remotely located at a distance of about 70 kms from Shillong with a travelling time of more than 3 hours. As per available records with DoT, 6459 villages are there in Meghalaya, out of which 4818 villages were covered with mobile signal, and now with the inauguration of this BTS of RJio in Jair village, this tally of covered villages would increase to 4819 .

To grace this occasion, Shri Ajay Kumar Sahu, Sr. Deputy Director General; Shri Ashok Kumar Jain, Deputy Director General (Compliance); Shri Dilip Kumar, Deputy Director General (Rural); Shri Salim Subas Bara, Director (Compliance); Shri Yogendra Singh Sisodia, Director (Administration) and Shri Dilip Singh Aswar, Director (Rural) were present from DoT North-East along with Shri Vikas Pareek, Shri Ranjeet Kumar and Shri Jibesh Biswas from RJIL.

In addition to voice communication, this BTS will also provide high-speed wireless internet connectivity in the area surrounding Jair village. It will help in better delivery of citizen-centric initiatives through e-governance, e-health, online education, promotion of tourism, e-commerce etc to improve the quality of life of the villagers. In a true sense, it is going to be a great gift of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav from DoT & RJio to the villagers. Villagers of Jair subscribed to 23 mobile connections on the spot yesterday ie on the day of the inauguration itself.

Landowner Shri Emanuel Lyngdoh was present along with the village secretary Shri Paulus Mynsong and many villagers. The enthusiastic Landowner expressed his happiness and informed that in addition to more than 700 villagers of Jair, about 1200 residents of nearby Lamalong village and many residents of other villages in the area like Sonidon, Mawbri Makaleng, Pamphlang, Umkra, etc will also be benefitted with this high-speed connectivity that would bring them closer to the rest of the country and the world as a whole paving way of their inclusive growth.
