History of Indian Armed Forces Flag Day
On August 28, 1949, a committee was set up under the then Defence Minister of India. The committee decided that Flag Day will be observed annually on December 7. The primary idea behind the Indian Armed Forces Flag Day was to distribute small flags to the civilians and collect donations for the soldiers in return. Over the years the day has gained more significance as it considers that it is the responsibility of the general population of India to take care of the families of the Armed Forces personnel who fight to keep the country safeguarded.
Why is Armed Forces Flag Day celebrated?
Every year 7th December is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day throughout the country to honour martyrs and the men and women in uniform who have valiantly fought on India’s borders to safeguard the country’s honour.
It is also a day to keep reminding us about our responsibility as civilians. If we cannot be present and fight at the battle field, then we can definitely remain at backstage to provide support and care to the families and loved ones of our valiant warriors. Over the years, it has become a tradition to pay tribute to the soldiers, sea warriors and airmen of India.
