On 09th December, 2021, under South Bengal Frontier, troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion apprehended a smuggler with 28 Kgs of betel nut. The smuggler was bringing the seized betel nut from Bangladesh to India from the area of ​​North 24 Parganas district.
On 09th December, 2021, acting on reliable information the jawans of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, saw a suspicious E-rickshaw approaching the Hakimpur check post located near the International Border. This rickshaw was trying to go from Hakimpur towards Swaroopada Bazar. On the basis of the information received, when the troops tried to stop it and search, the smuggler suddenly tried to run away but the alert troops apprehended the smuggler. When the jawans searched him, 28 Kgs of betel nut was recovered from the improvised cavity made in the E-rickshaw. The jawans soon seized the betel nut and took the smuggler into custody for questioning.
The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Sipon Biswas, age 22 years, village Tarali, PS Swarupnagar, District North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
During interrogation, the apprehended smuggler told that he is an Indian national and has been doing smuggling work for the last few days. This morning he got this betel nut from an unknown person named Imran near the international border. He further told that after crossing the BSF duty line, it was to be given back to Imran only, for this work he had to get 200 rupees.
The apprehended smugglers and seized betel nut have been handed over to custom office Tentulia for further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of the 112 Battalion trrops, in which they thwarted the smuggling attempts by apprehending 01 smuggler and seizing 28 Kgs of betel nut. He said that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty.
