Assam Flood: 11.50 lakh people affected , Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reviewed the situation

The flood situation in Assam remains critical as of July 2024, with over 11.50 lakh of  people affected across 29 districts. Atleast 46 people have died in rain-related incidents, and the death toll is expected to rise.

25,744 people have been shifted to 181 relief camps.

The floods have been caused by heavy rainfall in Assam and neighboring Arunachal Pradesh.

Several rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above the danger mark. 

The Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has reviewed the situation in affected districts, directed authorities to take adequate precautions, and assured repair work on damaged embankments and roads.

The civil administration, SDRF, NDRF, Emergency Services and Air Force are engaged in rescue and relief operations in Assam.

On July 3, Chief Minister visited Garal Bhattapara village in Burha Ghat, Kamrup district  to assess the conditions of the flood-affected residents.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa  Sarma has also communicated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the situation and visited flood-hit areas to oversee relief efforts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi have assured Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of all possible help in dealing with the crisis.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also visited flood affected Dibrugarh district on Wednesday, July 3.

The Union Minister also visited the relief camp of flood affected people at Tengakhat. He assessed the condition of flood-affected individuals, spoke with them to evaluate the material damage.

The worst-affected districts are Lakhimpur with over 1.65 lakh people affected, followed by Darrang with more than 1.47 lakh people and Golaghat with almost 1.07 lakh people reeling under floodwaters.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in the state for the next 2-3 days, further compounding the situation.
