On 11 July 2024 , at around 0345 hours one crew Mohan Majhi, Age 50 yrs whilst fishing went missing at sea from IFB Jai Baba Lokenath registered at Diamond Harbour.
The fishing boat was scheduled to return harbour at 0400 hrs on 11 July. After prolonged futile attempts of search at sea, Boat owner had approached Indian Coast Guard requesting to carryout search and rescue for missing crew around 1930 hours on 11 July 2024 .
Swiftly Indian Coast Guard Ship Kamla Devi was deployed for dedicated Search and Rescue mission of West Bengal Coast. The ship had carried through search of most probable area braving rough sea conditions. As the result of sustained search in the area a body was sighted floating in a decomposed state in deep sea.
Missing fishermen body was delicately recovered onboard by Indian Coast Guard Medical team on 13 July 24 at 1430 hrs and ship had immediately headed to Haldia to enter harbour at 0300 hrs on 14 July 24 for further formalities. Today morning at about 0830 hours body was safely handed over to local police and boat owner in presence of deceased family members.
