Nitesh Kumar wins Gold in Men’s Singles SL3 (Badminton) at Paris Paralympics

Another Gold for India in Paris Paralympics by Nitesh Kumar in Men’s Singles SL3 (Badminton).

He defeated Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 in Final.

He became the second Indian to win gold at the Paris Paralympics after Avani Lekhara who won Gold in women’s 10m air rifle shooting standing SH1.

Nitesh’s gold was India’s ninth medal at the Paris Paralympics and the second gold medal of the event.

Nitesh Kumar is an IIT Mandi graduate after losing his leg in a 2009 train accident in Visakhapatnam. He focused on his education, cleared the entrance exam, and discovered his passion for badminton at IIT Mandi,

Kumar’s journey to the finals included a dominant semifinal victory against Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara, where he won decisively with scores of 21-16 and 21-12.

In 2020, Tokyo Paralympics, Pramod Bhagat won the gold medal in the men’s singles SL 3 category.
