Maligaon Kali Bari’s Durga Puja Theme: Awakening Society Through Primary Education

Maligaon Kali Bari’s Durga Puja has once again captured attention with its unique theme, attracting both locals and visitors from afar. This year, the Puja committee has chosen “Primary Education” as the central theme, highlighting the importance of early education in the mother tongue. With the growing dominance of English-medium schools, the committee seeks to emphasize the significance of Bengali-medium education and the foundational role of one’s mother tongue in a child’s learning and development.

The pandal has been designed to resemble an ancient school, adorned with images of students, educational materials like books and notebooks, and various learning tools. Behind the idol, a scene of children engrossed in reading emphasizes the theme. The idol of Goddess Durga is also depicted as the deity of learning, surrounded by students engaged in their studies, symbolizing the importance of education for a child’s overall growth and future success.

The Maligaon Kali Bari committee hopes to convey the critical message that while English is essential, mother tongue education plays a vital role in building a strong foundation for children. They argue that early education in one’s native language enables better comprehension and paves the way for learning other languages more effectively. This theme not only celebrates the cultural heritage but also addresses a pressing societal issue.

In addition to the theme, the Puja committee has organized a drawing competition for children, allowing them to express their ideas on education creatively. There is also an aarti competition for women, fostering a sense of community and participation. These events aim to bring together people of all ages, creating an inclusive and engaging environment for everyone involved.

This year’s Durga Puja at Maligaon Kali Bari, with its socially relevant theme of primary education, has left a deep impact on the audience. By promoting awareness of the importance of learning in the mother tongue, the Puja has not only provided spiritual fulfillment but also a meaningful message for society.
