Assam Rifles commemorated International E-Waste Day on 14 October 2024 with a series of impactful events at Joupi, Chandel District. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of proper electronic waste management, educating civilians and troops alike on how to responsibly dispose of and recycle e-waste, thus contributing to global efforts in reducing environmental harm caused by discarded electronic devices.

During the event, participants were informed about the massive scale of e-waste generated globally, which amounts to over 53.6 million tonnes per year, with India contributing around 3.2 million tonnes annually, making it the third-largest e-waste producer in the world. The campaign focused on highlighting the environmental and health hazards caused by improper disposal, while also stressing the value of recycling, which not only recovers valuable components but also prevents pollution.

To involve the younger generation, an essay competition was organized for students, encouraging them to reflect on the importance of e-waste management and how individuals can contribute to tackling this growing issue.
