Indian star pacer Mohammad Shami marked an outstanding return to competitive cricket by bagging an impressive 4 for 54 to put Bengal in a commanding position against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match in Indore on Thursday.
Shami, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (2-35), Md Kaif (2-41) and debutant Rohit Kumar (1-27) helped Bengal bundle out Madhya Pradesh for just 167 in their first innings to bag the all-important first innings lead.
Earlier, Bengal posted 228 in their first innings.
At stumps on Day 2, Bengal, in their second innings, were 170/5 with a lead of 231 runs.
Sudip Chatterjee (40) and Sudip Kumar Gharami (40) impressed while Writtick Chatterjee (33 not out) and Wriddhiman Saha (21 not out) remained unbeaten at stumps.
