Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a historic two-day visit to Kuwait, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 43 years. He arrived at the invitation of HH Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, and received a ceremonial guard of honour at the Bayan Palace on December 22, 2024.
During this visit, Modi emphasized the longstanding and warm ties between India and Kuwait. He highlighted the importance of trade and commerce as foundational aspects of their bilateral relationship, noting that Kuwait is a significant supplier of crude oil to India, meeting about 3% of its energy needs.
The Prime Minister expressed his enthusiasm for expanding cooperation in various sectors, including defense, investment, and cultural exchanges.
Modi’s itinerary included extensive discussions with the Emir and other Kuwaiti leaders about enhancing bilateral relations. He also engaged with the Indian diaspora in Kuwait, acknowledging their contributions to both nations.
The Prime Minister’s visit is expected to solidify existing partnerships and explore new avenues for cooperation between India and Kuwait.
During his first official visit to Kuwait, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the country’s highest honor, the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer. The Order of Mubarak Al- Kabeer, the highest national award of Kuwait.
Prime Minister dedicated the award to the long-standing friendship between India and Kuwait, to the Indian community in Kuwait and to the 1.4 billion people of India.
In a post on X PM Modi wrote, ” I am honoured to be conferred the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Order by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. I dedicate this honour to the people of India and to the strong friendship between India and Kuwait.”
