Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony at Sehlon, Chandel District in the honour of Late Lance Naik Bil Bahadur Gurung and Late Rifleman Sapchhawna Lushai who made the supreme sacrifice displaying dauntless courage and dedication to duty despite facing overwhelming odds in intense Counter Insurgency Operation in Mizoram on 04 March 1966.
On March 3 1966, MNF insurgents attacked the Battalion Headquarter and outposts of 1 Assam Rifles deployed in Internal Security duty. Amidst the incessant firing, Lance Naik Bil Bahadur Gurung and Rifleman Sapchhawna Lushai displayed valour and prevented the insurgents from taking control of the garrison despite being critically injured. Lance Naik Bil Bahadur Gurung and Rifleman Sapchhawna Lushai made the supreme sacrifice, displaying valour and courage on 04 March 1966.
The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying by senior Assam Rifles officials, who exhorted all ranks to imbibe the virtues of valour shown by the brave soldier. 100 personnel from Assam Rifles paid rich tributes to the brave soldier.
ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISES ‘A DAY WITH COMPANY COMMANDER
The Assam Rifles organised “A Day with Company Commander” for 30 students aged 13 -14 years of St. Vincent School, Zoldam, at Gamphazol, Chandel District.
The day-long event, aimed to provide the students with a glimpse into the lives of a soldier and kindle patriotism and camaraderie. The event was packed with exciting activities, weapon display, a thrilling dog show and a guided tour of the camp.
The “A Day with Company Commander” event provided a unique opportunity for the students to gain knowledge about the history of Assam Rifles and way of life of a soldier. The students were inspired by the dedication and commitment of the personnel.
The event was a huge success, and the students of St. Vincent School, Zoldam, will cherish the memories of this special day for years.
ASSAM RIFLES ENHANCES HYGIENE AND SANITATION FACILITIES IN SUANGDOH VILLAGE
To enhance the basic infrastructure for hygiene and sanitation in far flung areas Assam Rifles on March 4, 2025 inaugurated a newly constructed toilet block at Suangdoh Village in Churachandpur District, Manipur under the Operation Sadbhavana.
The lack of proper sanitation facilities has been a long pressing issue for residents of Suangdoh Village and surrounding areas, due to the non availability of toilets. The construction of this toilet block, under Operation Sadbhavna is a step towards improving the quality of life for its residents, especially women and children, who are most affected by the lack of privacy and sanitation.
ASSAM RIFLES SEIZED DRUGS AT CHURACHANDPUR DISTRICT OF MANIPUR
In a major blow to the drug cartel and the perpetrators of drug business based on specific inputs regarding presence of a drug ring in Thingkangphai Village, Churachandpur District of Manipur, Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) launched an operation on March 3, 2025 to apprehend the drug dealers and seize the drugs. Late night on 03 March 2025, Assam Rifles caught red handed Mr Thangsuanman (44 years), resident of M Tanglian Village, a suspected drug dealer who was trying to close a drug deal in a white Mahindra Bolero vehicle. On searching the vehicle, approximately 1518 g of suspected Heroin No 4 in 132 soapcases worth Rs 15.4 Crore (approx) was found and seized. The apprehended, vehicle and seized drugs were handed over to Churachandpur Police station for further investigations.
