ASSAM RIFLES SEIZED 242 BAGS OF ARECA NUTS FOREIGN ORIGIN WORTH RS 1.62 CRORE IN KAKCHING DISTRICT

Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) seized 242 bags of areca nuts of foreign origin alongwith 02 x vehicles from general area Langmeidong, Kakching District on 19 May worth Rs 1.62 Crore.

Based on a specific inputs received and further corroborated by own sources regarding illegal transportation of foreign Areca Nuts, an operation was launched at 1 AM on 18 May 2025 and a party established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post near Langmeidong along the Burma Sugnu Road. At around 1:15 AM , the Mobile Vehicle Check Post intercepted 02 x loaded vehicles carrying Areca Nuts of Foreign Origin. On carrying out detailed search of the vehicles, the party discovered 242 gunny bags of foreign origin Areca nuts weighing 864 kg.Thorough search of all the bags was carried out to negate transportation of any other Narcotics/contrabands.

The following are details of apprehended persons and recovered items.

Apprehension:

•Md Abdul Malik (21yr) (Driver) s/o Md Abdul Samad r/o Moreh Turelwangma Leikai, Chandel Manipur .

Three individuals, two Goods Trucks (TATA DI Trucks) bearing regestration Number MN05C 2937 and MN07D 3271 and 242 Gunny bags of Areca Nut Foreign Origin weighing 864 kg at an Approx Cost of * ₹ 1.62 Crore have been handed over to Range Forest Officer, Kakching for further investigation.
