BJP government using organizations like CBI, ED, IT as puppets against political adversaries: Assam Congress MP Ripun Bora

Assam Congress MP Ripun Bora attacked on BJP led government at the center on Saturday.

In the 7 years of PM Modi’s rule, not a single BJP leader has been charged in any case by the CBI, ED or Income Tax. But, on the other hand, the BJP government has filed cases under CBI, ED or IT against Congress and other opposition leaders and raided their houses or confiscated their property, thereby not only harassing them but also trying to stifle the voices of the opposition through different means.

Bora also told the media person leaders of different opposition political parties were targeted to keep them away from campaigning


Former central Home minister and finance minister, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and his MP son Karthik were kept in jail for several months towards the end of 2019 on charges lodged by CBI.


Former Karnataka minister and present Karnataka Pradesh Congress president DK Sri Kumar was lodged in jail for a long time on an IT case.



CBI, ED and IT cases against leaders of Trinamool Congress: Just before the West Bengal Assembly elections, serially from February 21, 2021 onwards, Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee’s nephew and TMC general secretary cum MP Abhisekh Banerjee, his wife Rujira Narula and his brother-in-law were harassed by the CBI several times on an old case related to coal pilferage. They have been summoned by the CBI several times till now.


On March 15, 2021, Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee was stopped from campaigning by CBI when he was called for questioning several times on a 2014 complaint.


On March 16, 2021, West Bengal Youth Trinamool Congress leader Binoy Mishra’s brother Bikash Mishra was arrested by the ED.


On March 19, 2021, famous Trinamool leader, former minister and Assembly election candidate Madan Mishra and former Trinamool MP and Assembly election candidate Vivek Gupta were barred from electioneering by ED when it called them for interrogation.


Again on April 3,2021, TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh and MP Satabdi Roy were stopped from campaigning by ED when their properties were confiscated on the plea of the Sarada scam. On the other hand, BJP leader and election candidate Mukul Roy and Suvendru Adhikari were not so harassed by the ED in the same case.


ED raids during Kerala assembly elections: During the recently concluded Kerala Assembly elections, the ED sought to disgrace the name of Kerala CM Pinarai Vijayan and stop him from campaigning when the ED, without any proof, on March 3, 2021, summoned Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board(KIIFB) CEO K M Abraham and additional director Bikramjit Singh for questioning, in a bid to falsely implicate the Kerala CM, who was also the chairman of KIIFB. The ED could not recover any proof of corruption by the CM.


IT raids on BSP before Uttar Pradesh elections: In the elections to the UP state assembly in 2017, the BJP caused several IT- raids, leading to recovery of Rs 104 crore in order to tarnish the image of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and bar its leaders from campaigning. But after formation of government by BJP in 2017, the said Rs 104 crores were announced to be legitimate and returned to BSP, which had lost the election after being unable to spend the said legitimate amount.
