Aaranyak – Haltugaon Forest Division organises GPS Training for frontline forest staffs


The GPS is an essential tool used extensively in wildlife studies and monitoring. From tracking efforts to mapping, it remains one of the most indispensable tools.


Region’s frontline biodiversity conservation and research organisation, Aaranyak has been relentlessly working to build capacity of the frontline staffs in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), so that the GPS and other associated tools can be used to its full potential to monitor this biodiversity rich region for the conservation of its diverse wildlife.


In view of that, a GPS training was jointly conducted by Aaranyak and Haltugaon Division,Kokrajhar, BTR in the Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary of Kokrajhar on 16th December, 2021 wherein ten frontline staffs from Nayekgaon Range & Eco Task Force were trained.


Prosenjit Sheel and Gayatri Dutta from Tiger Research and Conservation Division (TRCD),Aaranyak and Dipu Brahma, Forest Guard, and a part of Team Manas Tigers from Bhuyanpara Range, Manas National Park were the resource persons. The workshop was supported by Ajay Basumatary in logistics from Aaranyak.


Special mention of ACF Promothesh Deb Roy who was crucial in facilitating the GPS training,further requested for future trainings for both officials and refresher training for frontline staffs.
