A month-long mass outreach programme aimed at creating electoral awareness and encouraging voter engagement in the run up to the National Voters’ Day on January 25,2022 will be held in the district. A meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur Bhupesh Chandra Das, ACS was held in the DC Conference Hall, Sonitpur on 24th Dec’21 to discuss plans to conduct these events smoothly with all responsible Officials.
In this connection, a series of activities titled ‘Xojaag Voter Competitions’ will be organized across the Revenue District, Sonitpur.
The State has been divided into Seven Zones & Sonitpur falls under North Assam Zone—for the purpose.
The objective of the outreach programme is to re-energise the institutions of electoral literacy clubs (ELCs), Voter Awareness Forums (VAFs) and Campus ambassadors (selected as per protocol laid down by the Election Commission of India at College and University levels), so as to reach out to every single voter as well as prospective voters. It is also aimed at generating awareness about electoral matters, including ethical voting. Football, Dance and Singing Competition will be organized to ensure maximum youth participation. For Football Competition, there will be two entry categories-First Category is XI-XII & Secondary Category is Degree 1st Year & above(Boys & Girls separately).The respective authorities of educational institutions should submit the list of teams to the District Sports Officer, Sonitpur by 26th Dec’21 & the District Level matches will be held between 27th Dec’21 till 4th Jan’22.The winner of District Level will compete at Zonal Level, and the matches will be held between 4th till 12th Jan,22 at Tezpur. The winner of Zonal level will compete at State level scheduled to be held between 17th till 22nd Jan’22 at Guwahati. Similarly for Dance & Singing events, there will be two entry categories-First Category is IX-XII & Second Category is Degree 1st Year & above. The respective authorities of educational institutions shall initially arrange physical Dance/Singing competitions and will send the videos (max. 3 mins.) of winners to the Block Elementary Education Officer through WhatsApp on or before 30th Dec’21. The Block Level(online) winner will be decided by 2nd Jan’22. The winner of Block Level will compete at District Level (Physical competition) scheduled to be held between 3rd Jan’22 to 11th Jan’22 and the winner of District level will compete at Zonal level scheduled to be held between 12th Jan’22 till 18th Jan’22 at Tezpur. The winner of Zonal level will compete at State level scheduled to be held between 18th till 23rd Jan’22 at Guwahati. The Winners of these events shall be awarded on National Voters’ Day i.e., on 25th Jan’22.
All of these activities will be interspersed with informative electoral matters. Additionally Spot painting, essay writing and electoral quiz competitions shall also be organized. Necessary Covid protocols will be strictly observed considering the ongoing pandemic while medical facilities will also be arranged at the venues.
