On 02 January, 2022, the troops of South Bengal Frontier, BSF thwarted the plans of the smugglers and apprehended 01 smuggler with 54 kg of betel nut. The estimated value of seized betel nut and e-rickshaw (Toto) is Rs 64,300/-. The smuggler was taking these betel nut from India to Bangladesh through smuggling from the Border Out Post Tarali in the area of North 24 Parganas district.
On January 02, 2022, on the basis of specific information, the troops of Border Out Post Tarali, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata were on a search operation near the International Boundary. Around 1615 hrs the jawans saw a suspicious e-rickshaw (Toto) coming which was going from Tarali towards Swaroopada Bazar. When the troops stopped it and searched, the smuggler suddenly tried to run away, but the ready soldiers caught the smuggler without giving any chance. When BSF troops searched him, 54 kg of betel nut was recovered from a cavity in the roof of the e-rickshaw (Toto). The jawans seized the betel nut and took the smuggler into custody for questioning. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Manirul Gain, age – 40 years, Village – Tarali, Post Office – Hakimpur, Police Station – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
During questioning apprehended smuggler Manirul gain, revealed that he is an Indian citizen and has been working as a smuggler for the last few days. This morning (January 02) he had taken these betel nut from Raju (Village – Tarali, Post Office – Hakimpur, Thana – Swaroopnagar) near the International Boundary, which was to be handed over back to Raju after crossing the BSF duty line. For this smuggling he had to get Rs.300/- from Raju.
The apprehended smugglers and seized betel nut have been handed over to Customs office Tentulia for further legal action.
Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of the 112 Battalion troops, in which they apprehended 01 smuggler and seized 54 kg of betel nut while thwarting the smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly added that nothing can hide from the eyes of his BSF troops. He also stated that he also has an excellent team to give accurate information related to smuggling.
