The funeral ceremony of Lt Suvesh Kumar Mitter, Vir Chakra was conducted with military honours at Kolkata on 07 Jan 22 under COVID restrictions. Officials from Naval Officer-in-Charge (West Bengal) paid homage and placed wreaths on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff and other dignitaries of the Indian Navy. Lt SK Mitter was a decorated Naval Officer of the 1971 Indo-Pak War. His Naval actions during the 1971 War, whilst in Command of a Gun Boat and along with BSF and Mukti Bahini, resulted in disruption of waterborne traffic at Mongla Port, denial of the Pusur River to the Enemy Forces and eventual capture of Khulna Port.
