BSF APPREHENDED A PHENSEDYL SMUGGLER ON INDO-BANGLADESH BORDER

On January 08, 2022, the troops of Border Security Force under the South Bengal Frontier thwarting the smuggling efforts, apprehended a smuggler with 148 bottles of Phensedyl. The smuggler was trying to smuggle all these Phensedyl from India to Bangladesh District North 24 Parganas area.

On 08 January 2022, acting on specific information, the troops of Border Out Post Dobarpara, 158 Battalion, Sector Kolkata deployed a special Ambush near Bornberia village, located near the International Boundary. Around 2230 hrs Ambush Party noticed the movements of a suspect person who was moving towards Ichhamati River (International Boundary) with headloads of two plastic bags (Potala). The ambush jawans apprehended the smuggler without giving any chance. When the jawans searched the smuggler, 148 bottles of Phensedyl were recovered from inside the bag. The estimated price of which was found to be Rs 27,624/-. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Gopal Biswas, age 21, Village + Post Office – Bornberia, Thana – Gayaghata, District – North 24 Parganas (West Bengal).

During preliminary interrogation, apprehended smuggler Gopal Biswas revealed that he is involved in all kinds of smuggling for the last five years. He also visits smugglers’ houses from time to time in the Bangladeshi villages of Panchbullet and Putkhali located near the International Boundary. Today (January 08, 2022) he had taken all these Phensedyl from Abhijit Ghosh (Village – Manashtalla, Post Office – Bornberia, Thana – Gaighata, District – North 24 Parganas) who was to cross the BSF duty line and further handover this consignment to the Bangladeshi smuggler. For this work, he was to get 2000 rupees from Abhijit Ghosh. But as soon as the he reached the BSF duty line, the BSF apprehended him red handed alongwith Phensedyl.

The apprehended smugglers and seized Phensedyl have been handed over to Gaighata Police Station for further legal action.

The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier has expressed happiness over the achievements of the 158 Battalion troops, in which the jawans apprehended 01 smuggler with 148 bottles of Phensedyl. He further stated that this was possible only because of the alertness shown by their jawans on duty. The officials clearly stated that they will not allow any kind of smuggling in their area.
