Late Constable Vivek Tiwari of 159 Bn BSF has put a shining example of duty unto death and sacrificed his life at the altar of duty while performing duties at Hariya Nallah area in the early morning hours of 10 Jan 2022. On watching the cattle being smuggled across the Hariya Nallah he challenged the criminals by firing from his rifle and alerted his buddy who was about 80 mtrs away. In dense fog he tried to chase the criminals on his own in the nallah without waiting for his buddy but he was overpowered by the criminals and drowned in the nallah.

BSF recognises outstanding valour & devotion to duty of braveheart Late Constable Vivek Tiwari in challenging the criminals single handedly to prevent trans-border crimes in dense foggy conditions without caring for his own life. The mortal remains of Late Constable Vivek Tiwari was given a tearful send-off yesterday from Aradhpur HQ 159 Bn BSF to his native place Village- Mahuvi Sherpur, Distt Azmgarh, Uttar Pradesh in the presence of Shri Sudhir Hooda, DIG Malda and Shri Harsh Nandan Joshi, Commandant 159 Bn after bestowing full force honours. He is survived by his pregnant wife and 01 year old daughter.

There has been increase in the trans-border crimes in Malda district in last one month. Criminals from both sides of the border are desperately trying to take advantage of the dense fog to carry out their nefarious activities. A case of culpable homicide has been registered with Police Station Bamangola, Malda to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.

It is unfortunate that on the basis of instructions from the Indian Government, even the well trained and capable BSF Jawans cannot open fire at the smugglers, criminals and intruders in the International Borders and taking advantage of the situation, the Bangladeshis hit the Jawans on duty every now and then. As a result, today BSF family has lost a brave heart. The officers and men are always advised by the MHA to maintain a friendly relation between the two sides on the border and hence the Indian side is helpless.
A top serving BSF officer feels that this should be stopped once for all so that no more BSF Jawan like late constable Vivek Tiwari is killed in future , as in the instant case.
